We meet the last Wednesday of every month from 6:30-8pm. Our location varies so please reach out if you would like to join us. We would love to have you!
Soma Students exists to see the gospel change the lives of middle and high school students and to send them out to serve their schools and city with the message and mercy of Jesus. We believe that God has ordained the family and the church to work together to disciple students. The church is like an extended family that comes alongside families and supports them as they disciple their children. For this reason, we intentionally equip families and our church family to serve students well. We desire that every family experience gospel transformation and community support in a way that enables them to thrive in the city.
Gospel Identity: We want Christian students to know who they are and that the gospel changes everything. We want non-Christian students to come to saving faith and find their identity in Christ.
Intentional Community: We want to help students form life-giving relationships with their families, their church, their schools, their neighborhoods, and one another.
Holistic Mission: We want to equip, empower, and send out our students to serve our city with the message and mercy of Jesus.
Daughter of a couple Swedes, Holger and Rhonda Holgersson, from the bustling metropolis of Coal Valley, IL. I graduated with a degree in Christian Worship and Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan in 2014 and wandered to Indy in 2015. Since then, I've been working as a Client Associate for an investment firm on the north side as my full-time job and, since 2017, as the Soma Midtown Music Director part-time.
There's a few things you should know about me: I'm unreasonably terrified of worms. I am naturally gifted in virtual fiction (video games). I'm PADI open-water certified (recent lifelong dream goal - WOOT). I quote Lord of the Rings in casual conversation. If you have an event and there is a theme of any kind, I'm in. Easily excitable.
It wasn't until high school that I was a part of any sort of youth group experience, but the one I had was amazing. It was so formative in my walk with Christ and how I experienced community and gained mentors in addition to and apart from my parents. Moving into college, I spent an entire summer as a camp counselor at 8 different camps with middle school & high school aged students. Then post-college, I was a middle school youth group worship director for a year. I fell in love with this age group and know how hard it can be sometimes growing up during this phase of life. My dream is to see this young, Christ-centered community grow and flourish, not only in Soma, but in Indianapolis. I hope to see this group become a space that feels safe for those outside of Soma, new to Soma, or familiar with Soma; to come make friends with other students, the leaders, to be able to ask questions, ask for prayer, grow in spiritual formation and to feel known.
What I do:
Solution Architect at Conga + Basketball Referee + sometimes a musician
I competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in 7th grade (NERD ALERT)
My nickname is "Sheep" and is the only name I respond to at work
I have never pulled an all-nighter
Why I serve:
You ever found that thing that sits in the sweet spot of fun, gifting, and God's calling? Working with students and kids is that for me. I can't help but smile when being with students. I think God has made it easy for me to connect with students, and I know He has called me to working with them. It's an honor to be in your students' lives!
I am a proud nap-taker. I will sleep anytime, anywhere. Ask me about my favorite napping locations! I will also gladly offer advice on napping techniques, proper nap-length, and the ideal napping food.
Greetings! I’m Adam. Although technically a human, I was raised by elves. I work as a bridge design engineer with the dream of one day building a bridge to the North Pole for more convenient trips home. I love sports, the outdoors, and laughing. College brought me to the Hoosier State in 2012. After graduating from Notre Dame, I moved to Indianapolis. I quickly came to love this incredible city and church.
I grew up going to church on Sundays and being involved in youth group as a student. I understand the importance of having a strong support system of friends and mentors. I am very thankful for the people who invested in me and kept me focused on the Lord.
I joined the Soma Students leadership team because I desire to foster the same level of community, support, and guidance that I received. Let's face it. Middle and high school can be an awkward time. But, when coupled with a community that is focused on serving God, it can be a time filled with rich growth and understanding.
