The Gospel and Marriage

  • Soma Church Midtown

Thursdays, September 7 - October 26 | 7-9p
Soma Church Midtown | 2815 E 62nd Street

The gospel changes everything; nowhere is this more evident than in our approach to marriage. It's open to all couples (dating, engaged, or married), but it is a prerequisite for any couples who wish to be married by a Soma pastor.

Participating couples will also be connected to a mentor couple for ongoing support and discipleship! This class also requires several hours per week of reading, audio listening and discussion in addition to class time.

Classes will be held at the Soma Church office from 7-9p on Thursday evenings, September 7 through October 26.

Note: This class requires taking a $35-per-couple online relationship assessment. You'll also read Tim and Kathy Keller's The Meaning of Marriage (Soma will buy) as part of the course.

ArtSpeak BANNER-2.jpg

Thursday, January 12 | 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Rabble Coffee, 2119 East 10th Street

ArtSpeak in its simplest form, is about rethinking beauty and its purpose. Creativity reflects the deep human desire for transcendence. We want to hear how artists in different mediums chase after it.

Each month, we bring in a different artist to talk about their craft. Whether it be music, paintings or writing, we want to give people a platform to talk about what they do and what inspires them. At the end of the day, we want to create a common-interest space where people can have honest conversations with one another about beauty. We want people to stop and think twice about beautiful things; to consider what creativity really means.

These monthly events are hosted downtown at Rabble Coffee.

Contact Trevor at trevor@somaindy.com if you have any questions or comments in the meantime.

Hope to see you there!

2016 Women's Conference

  • Soma Church Midtown

Saturday, November 12 | 9a - 3:30p
Soma Church Midtown, 2815 East 62nd Street

Mark your calendars for the 2016 Women's Conference!

This year's theme will be "Because of Christ".  We'll be delving into Philippians together, as we look at how Jesus changes everything!  We'll also hear stories from various Soma women about how knowing Jesus has not only impacted their head knowledge, but also their hearts!

Cost to attend is $15.

Speakers:

Jody is an Indianapolis native, but has lived several other places in her adult life. She became a believer while living in Japan right after college. She worked with Cru for 11 years and went back to Japan for a year to work as a missionary. She met her husband Bobby in 2009 and now she’s not only a wife to Bobby, but a mom to Jack, Lucy, and Annie. Jody’s passions in life are Jesus and people. She enjoys caring for women as they develop a deeper love for Jesus and walk in the freedom of how He's specifically created them.

Deb Dunlevy was born in Indiana and grew up everywhere else. God has taken her on a journey through several states, a few career changes, and a decade in South America. She and her husband, Nate, are now proudly raising their three kids in Pike Township, where she's finding the unexpected joy of putting down roots. Deb works as an author and editor, and divides her time between writing, juggling Little League schedules, and loving on her community at Soma.

Robin MacKinnon, conference speaker, Soma Kids director, and Coke Zero addict, has a passion for equipping others to live abundantly in Christ! As a homeschooling mother of five she seeks to love her kids well and is married to an amazing man who keeps her laughing.

Jodi Sarver is married to Chris.  She has 4 children:  Lydia, Lucas, Abram and Annalise.  She has a B.S. in Psychology from Western Michigan University.  She worked with CRU, a campus ministry, for 22 years ministering to college students and developing CRU staff. She enjoys being outside, adventures with her family, rich Bible studies, and honest conversations over a Chai Tea Latte.

Soma Kids Volunteer Summit

Saturday, October 22 | 9:00 am - 12:00 noon
Soma Church Midtown, 2815 E 62nd Street

The children of our church are maybe the most fertile ground for teaching, discipleship, and even evangelism we'll find at Soma. They come to church (almost) every week, ready for lessons and stories, ready to be cared for by the men and women who lead them.

You could have a place in that ministry.

On October 22, we'll hold a volunteer summit for current and interested Soma Kids volunteers. We'll discuss the vision for our Soma Kids ministry, talk about how to teach our lessons, and get feedback from you on what's working well and what you'd like to see differently in our Soma Kids ministry.

Child care will be provided, but you must register for it in advance. A light breakfast with snacks and coffee will be offered as well!

All current volunteers and those interested in volunteering with Soma Kids are invited to the event!

In this day-long workshop, we’ll offer a biblical perspective for helping individuals out of material poverty; we’ll also help churches move toward developing a mercy ministry that emphasizes economic and community development.

We'll have a full line-up of speakers including Dr. Carl Ellis who is currently serving as Associate Pastor for Cultural Apologetics at New City Fellowship Church in Chattanooga, TN and serves on numerous boards as a consultant on cultural matters.
